Zotac’s new 880G AMD Mini-ITX motherboards announced

Zotac has released details of two new motherboards in the Mini-ITX series. Both feature mini-PCIe modules enabling integrated Wi-Fi, twin DDR3 ports, video out connectors and a PCIe slot each. Both new boards are based on AMD HD4250 GPUs, and have corresponding HDMI + DVI rear connectors.

M880G-ITX – MSRP $229

Zotac’s M880G-ITX is well-equipped, and would suit a machine intended for simple use – those demanding heavy editing abilities, or who use graphics-intensive applications might find the AMD M880G + SB820M chipset and AMD Turion II Neo K625 dual-core 1.5Ghz processor a little basic. The unit also contains six SATA 6Gb/s ports, able to operate at up to RAID 5.

The M880G-ITX benefits from easy connectivity: on the back, it has two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports (expandable to six with a pin header), a serial port, an HD Audio set of ports, a PS/2 keyboard connector and an optical S/PDIF output.

880G-ITX – MSRP $119

Zotac’s other new model is similar to the M880G-ITX, although the M880G-ITX contains an AMD 880G + SB850 chipset, and ships without a CPU – any AM3 processor up to a 95W TDP can be used. Other key differences are that the 880G has four SATA 6Gb/s ports and six USB 2.0 ports.

Zotac’s aims with these boards aren’t entirely clear: their specialist users are unlikely to rush to buy them, and the price will have to be competitive.
