Mini-ITX multimedia power house by VIA

VIAVIA VB8003 – Mini-ITX Nano Board. I have been writing about this awesome mini motherboard already (right here), but there is much more information available today.

Here is a quick look:

This motherboard combines a 1.6GHz VIA Nano processor, chipset responsible for handling multimedia VIA VX800, and DirectX10.1 compatible GPU from S3. This system is an excellent platform for a new generation home theater pcs that require high power to play today’s multimedia content with Full HD resolution. Additionally it may be expanded for even better functionality with the following modules:


VB8003 mainboard is equipped with a wide range of different I/O ports, including two HDMI, DVI and VGA. S3 Graphics 435 ULP GPU and the integrated VIA VX800 can be configured to power up to four independent monitors in Full HD 1080p resolution (or even higher – as stated in VIA news).

Dedicated onboard S3 graphics processor is specially designed to support advanced multimedia capabilities for next-generation applications using DirectX10.1. S3 Graphics 435 ULP is based on the ChromotionHDmultimedia video engine, thus providing a true HD quality in 1080p playback enabling hardware acceleration for H.264, VC-1, WMV 9, MPEG-2 / 4, and AVS in resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 pixels (Blu-ray).

The VIA VB8003 supports up to 4GB of DDR2 533/667 SDRAM memory, with 256MB of dedicated GDDR3 graphics memory. Motherboard supports 4 display outputs including 2 x HDMI, DVI, VGA and two RCA jacks, two Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet, 6 USB 2.0 ports, serial, two COM and PS2 ports. Additionally there are two-port S-ATA, one 40-pin IDE and type 2 Compact Flash slot.

I think that it may be great solution for building HTPC. I just wonder about two more things that are not known yet… First is video acceleration support under Linux and second is the price. If it can beat the price of Asus ION AT3N7A-I and ZOTAC IONITX it really can became popular – until you won’t need PCI slot as described in “Asus AT3N7A-I as the best choice for your Full HD Mini HTPC? ” (yep… Asus have PCI). I will let you know as soon as I will get any more information about this little baby… Let us know in the comments what to you think about this great product from VIA.
