Fanless Asus AT3N7A-I?

Passive coolingA lot of Mini-ITX fans are wondering if this motherboard can run fanless? There were some tests made by many motherboard reviewers. But all they did was disconnecting power from working motherboard… With such tries the CPU temperature got dangerous values…

It looks that it can not run without default fun when there is no any other cooling. It would be great to get it working with passive cooling. Unfortunately no one have published any working solution for making it passive. But as I wrote before this motherboard can really be the best choice for your HTPC

If you have read any review of this motherboard you know that installed fan is very noisy. And it can be very annoying when you want it to be run as your media pc. So currently we know it can not run without fan… But it looks that you may replace it with something much more silent.

I don’t have this motherboard so I can not test it. But according to this forum post, it looks that even a case fan can be enough to make CPU on this great mini motherboard cool an stable…

So now we are waiting for passive cooling solutions… Do you think it would be possible? Most VIA motherboard can run with modified heat sinks… so there is a hope for Asus as well…

UPDATE: It looks that it is possible to make a real fanless setup. Here are photos of totally fanles Asus AT3N7A-I! Amazing…

  • Heloo! i just instaled the asus motherboard in a coolermaster tc-100 case, a passive case with heatpipes, and the cpu stays at 30 in idle and 50 in load, i think that’s good! By the way ..i did a small modification to the system by mounting a custom aluminium plate between the cpu+gpu and the aluminium blocks provided by coolermaster because the sistem was not designed for the asus board. If you are intrested a can put some pictures.

    • It would be great if you send us the photos. It would be published on this blog and I believe that our readers would really love it!

  • Hy again. I’ve sent you some pictures, let me know if you guys need more details.
